SMAMIO Holds OASEF 2026, Presents Australian Consul General to Strengthen Students' Global Insights

Gresik - SMA Muhammadiyah 10 GKB Gresik (Smamio) successfully held the Overseas Education Forum (OASEF) with the theme “Australia–Indonesia Education Connection: Building Pathways to Global Learning” on Wednesday, May 20, 2026 at the Cordoba Convention Hall. This activity became a forum for strengthening global insight for grade X and XI students through international educational collaboration between Indonesia and Australia.
The event began with learning activities as usual in their respective classes, then all students gathered at Cordoba Hall to participate in the international forum. The activity opened with a stunning performance from the SMAMIO Band which succeeded in raising the enthusiasm of the participants.
The atmosphere of the activity was lively since the morning. The students looked neat and orderly following the entire series of events. The Cordoba Hall was filled with an international nuance with decorations of Indonesian and Australian flags which added a warm and inspiring impression. The presence of Mr. Glen Askew as the Australian Consul General in Surabaya was a special attraction for the participants. The students looked very enthusiastic listening to the presentation on global education opportunities, international cooperation, and the importance of cross-cultural communication skills.
In his remarks, the principal said that this activity was part of the school's commitment to building a young generation who are ready to compete at the global level. This forum also presented a special guest, namely the Australian Consul General in Surabaya, Mr. Glen Askew,” he said
Through this activity, SMA Muhammadiyah 10 GKB Gresik hopes to continue to build a young generation that is high-achieving, internationally minded, and ready to become future leaders,” he concluded
As the main speaker, Mr. Glen Askew explained the importance of educational relations between Australia and Indonesia in building the future of the young generation. He explained that international education is not only about studying abroad, but also opening cultural insights, improving global communication skills, and expanding international networks. According to him, Indonesian students have great potential to develop in a global educational environment because they are known to have a high enthusiasm for learning and strong character," he said
He also introduced various study opportunities in Australia, ranging from student exchange programs, scholarships, to international university collaborations. The question and answer session was interactive with high enthusiasm from students who wanted to know more about the experience of studying in Australia, "he concluded
One of the participants, Saffana Az Zahra from class XI-3, shared her impressions of the activity. She admitted that she was very happy and motivated after participating in this forum. According to him, the OASEF activities opened students' eyes to the importance of global education and gave them new enthusiasm to achieve their dreams in the future," he said.
The activity closed with a group photo session as a symbol of togetherness and the spirit of international collaboration.
